GUSTHAWK of MOUNTAINCLAN
75 MOONS • MEDICINE CAT
CIS MALE • ASEXUAL
SHORT DESCRIPTION
A MUSCULAR, BATTLE-SCARRED SILVER TABBY WITH LONG FUR, AND COPPER EYES.
PERSONALITY
- ASTUTE - this is a weapon Gust learned early on in life, in order to steer conversations and events in his favor. This is generally something he uses for the good of MountainClan, such as avoiding inter-Clan aggression, calming particularly wily apprentices, and also getting others to listen to his opinions with an open mind. Essentially, he observes those around him in order to figure out the best way to manipulate them into agreement with his will. While this could easily be used in a bad manner, Gusthawk is simply not inclined to utilize his skills in such a way.
- VERSATILE - In his ability to observe others keenly, Gust has found it easier to adapt to his surroundings. He is someone of many talents such as brute strength, mind games, and of course herbology.
- POISED - It is quite difficult to rile this tom. While he can be abrupt and rude, he hardly ever loses control of his emotions due to careful training from Mesaflame shortly after Kiteclaw's death. After all, a medicine cat lead by emotion is bound to let them get in the way.
- PATERNAL - Despite all of his harsh jokes and truths, Gust is a deeply passionate and caring individual when it comes to his Clanmates. He views all of them as insolent kits, but they're his insolent kits. That is something he conveys in the best way he knows possible: action. Gust is almost always gentle when treating the wounded, and never turns his back on those in need. He would fight to the death in order to keep MountainClan safe and taken care of.
- CONSISTENT - Gusthawk, in all his moons, hasn't changed much. Aside from growing in maturity and intelligence he is still very much the same in personality. He hasn't wavered in his drive to be a good member of MountainClan, nor his loyalty to those he calls Clanmates. This won't ever change.
- FIRM - Standing stubbornly by his opinions and the traditions of his people, Gusthawk is precise in how he conveys himself and is difficult to sway once his mind his made. He is also quite stern toward others when they act out, and is the first to make sure mistakes are not made twice. While he loves his Clanmates, he believes allowed mistakes create weakness and that is not something a group of cats living in the mountains and plateaus can afford to have.
- UNAMBITIOUS - This triat must not be mistaken as laziness. Gust has never been, and never will be the lazy sort. He is the type to do things thoroughly and correctly, never half-heartedly. This, among many other traits, would make him a wonderful leader. Such has been noticed by quite a few of his peers. Even so, he has never wanted such responsibility. Gusthawk has always wanted to lead the simple life of a warrior. While this seems to clash with his current rank, the simple fact is, he took his rank as medicine cat out of a foolish misgiving that he could save everyone from death. Now though, he has no such misgivings and no longer has the ambition to be the best or do things the best; he simply does as he knows to do.
- IMPOLITE - Gusthawk is the type of tom to say what he means without much of a filter. It's something he's fully conscious of, and therefore ends up offending many cats he comes across. The truth of the matter is Gust doesn't much care for the feelings of others when he's attempting to make a point, and is quite tactless. His mother often scolds him still for it.
- CONSERVATIVE - A big believer in traditions, and is difficult to dissuade concerning them. He figures that the Clans have lived fine enough abiding by the set rules, and that deviating from them is foolish. Change, while sometimes good, can always lead to trouble. Therefore Gusthawk is cautious of changing customs, and is vocal about it when necessary. He abides by the Warrior's Code strictly.
- MISERLY - It is imperative to keep as many herbs at paw as possible in MountainClan due to the unpredictable nature of their territory. Therefore Gust uses as little of his store as possible while treating his patients in order to keep enough herbs to last the Clan until fresh ones sprout. This also means that he it is not uncommon for him to refuse to treat petty wounds such as minor scratches, scrapes, etc.
- AUSTERE - Gusthawk is known to be very intimidating in the way that he speaks what he thinks without regard for feelings, and how his rules must be followed to the t in his den. This can cause arguments with others, especially the leader or deputy but he is a stubborn old badger.
- GRUFF - He doesn't believe in sugar-coating.
HISTORY
- Silverbird and Tempestheart are set up by their close friends, and decide to give a romantic relationship a try. Shortly after, Silverbird is found pregnant and the couple is sent into a frenzy of panic. They'd not yet figured out if they truly wanted to be together, let alone bare children together!
- Tempestheart promises to stick by Silverbird throughout the pregnancy. They like each other well enough to be able to work together and possibly even love one another eventually. Having grown up without much of a parenting system due to constant fighting between his parents, Tempest is determined to give his kits the life he had always yearned for.
- Two kittens are produced, and they are beautiful. The new parents are in awe of what they've made together. This sparks a mutual boost in respect toward one another. They make a pact to always protect their offspring, despite whatever happens to their relationship. The tom and she-cat are named Gustkit and Chickadeekit respectively.
- Silverbird is clumsy in the beginning, unsure of herself as a Queen. She never spent much time around young ones due to their loud and probing natures. They made her uncomfortable, but she found herself quickly warming up to her own set of miracles. Tempestheart helped ease her into it by watching over the kids when Silver became too overwhelmed.
- At five moons, Gustkit stumbles unwittingly into the medicine cat's den. The strange scents intrigue him, and he soon finds himself just as fascinated by the herbs' guardian, Mesaflame. She is gentle, warm, but stern. It is soon clear to the young cat that the strange plants she collects are not to be touched without permission. Gust finds himself enjoying the stories the medicine cat spins for him, and promises to visit often.
- Gust and Chickadee become apprentices at six moons. The two are thrilled, and have perfectly groomed pelts just for the ceremony thanks to their parents. By now they have noticed and accepted the fact that their parents aren't in love. They are kind and care about one another, that's all they could ever ask for.
- Gustpaw is assigned to a massive tom named Kiteclaw. He's obviously a fighter, if his name and scars are anything to go by. The young apprentice instantly admires his mentor. This only grows in intensity as he gets to know him. Kite is a fiercely loyal and patient cat, with an awe-inspiring generosity toward others. While his temper does best him at times, Gustpaw doesn't fault him for it.
- Toward the middle of his apprenticeship, Gustpaw and Kiteclaw come nose to nose with an eagle's nest while out hunting. Thinking they hit the jackpot, the pair scavenge the eggs to bring back to the Clan, only for the parents to make an appearance. Kite slays one of the birds before being launched off the side of the cliff they were on. Scared and grief-stricken, Gustpaw retreats despite extensive injury.
- Due to his wounds, Gust is restricted to the medicine cat's den while the Clan searches for Kiteclaw's body. Mesaflame listens to the young cat's herb-induced babbling, letting him pour out all of his guilt and grief. Gust's parents and sister visit often, Silverbird generally spending the night by his side when permitted to.
- Once healed, Gustpaw is offered the position of medicine cat apprentice. After much thought and hesitation, he accepts. Mesaflame puts him to work immediately. It's not easy like he'd imagined, remembering all of the herbs and their uses. Not only that, Gust is subject to learning on the job. Living in such a dangerous territory means many patients and lots of stocking up on herbs. The hustle and bustle becomes comfortable and helps keep Kiteclaw off of Gustpaw's mind.
- At twenty-five moons old, Mesa deems her apprentice qualified to become a full-fledged medicine cat. As such, he is named Gusthawk for his keen senses. It also ends in Mesaflame's retirement. He has been acting as sole medicine cat ever since; fifty moons to be exact.
