SPIDEREYE of TWILIGHTCLAN
55 MOONS • MEDICINE CAT
SHE-CAT • PANSEXUAL
SHORT DESCRIPTION
a tiny black she-cat with green eyes, one scarred over.
PERSONALITY
- BRUSQUE; her outward demeanor is rarely described as pleasant. The she-cat is blunt and always ensures she's heard when she speaks. Her manners are near non-existent, she doesn't hold back her sarcastic tongue for anyone, and her bedside manner leaves much to be desired. She's more than willing to cuff someone over the ears if they need it. She believes a lot in tough-love, and that's what she dishes out. She only does it because she cares.
- DEDICATED; she's extremely dedicated to her cause and will work herself to death if she's allowed to. Spidereye is of the mind that if you're going to do something, you ought to do it right the first time and do a thorough job, and it's the reason she chose to remain a medicine cat after being assigned the role as an apprentice.
- PESSIMISTIC; after the experiences she's had in both the field of medicine and with her past two apprentices abruptly dying, one can hardly blame her for expecting the worst of things. She can be quite the downer, but luckily expecting the worst means preparing for the worst, and she does like to be prepared.
- GREY MORALS; medicine isn't all black and white. Her viewpoint is that her job as a medicine cat is to minimize suffering, and sometimes that means making hard choices, like who to treat first and when, or deciding when someone's too far gone to save. She doesn't enjoy these decisions in the slightest, and knows that there will always be someone who disagrees with them (not that she cares what others think), but they come with the job and she's seen her fair share of them.
- LOYAL; despite her gruff exterior, Spidereye is loyal through and through, and would never stand to see a member of her Clan harmed in any way. She's much more loyal to her Clan than to StarClan (not that she has discussed this with anyone) but still attends meetings for their benefit.
- HEARTFELT; she's got an extreme soft spot for kits and apprentices, a weakness which she guards closely. Still, they always manage to worm their way into her heart. Her demeanor doesn't change much around them, but someone who knows her well enough will spot the softer look in her one good eye.
- HARDENED; Spidereye's gone through a lot, and it's made her who she is today. She's not intimidated, she doesn't (visibly) break, and it takes a lot to get past her emotional barriers (kits and apprentices generally have an easier time of it). It's quite rewarding when accomplished, though- a somewhat pleasant conversation, or a heart-to-heart perhaps.
- STRONG-WILLED; don't expect her to stand down once she's made a decision on something. She didn't make it this far in life being wishy-washy, and she's confident enough in her abilities as a medicine cat to make calls and stand behind them. She's especially pushy when it comes to decisions on someone's health- if she says a warrior needs to stay off their foot to let it heal, then by StarClan they're going to stay off their foot. Let her catch you breaking a direct order and see where it gets you.
- ALTRUISTIC; it doesn't seem like it at first glance, but Spidereye cares deeply for a lot of cats, and would do absolutely anything for them, even if it meant sacrificing her own well being. In addition, she tends to be a good listener for those in trouble and will keep a secret when asked to, with no further inquiry. Surprisingly, she can also be a good shoulder to cry on as well- just expect a rough pep-talk afterwards, so she can save face.
- INDEPENDENT; no, she doesn't need your help, nor does she want it unless she specifically asked for it- and more often it's her commanding, not asking. Don't mention her bad eye or her size or her old name and try to stay out of her way when she's working- especially if there's an emergency.
HISTORY
- Spiderkit, Black-kit, and Sootkit are born to two young TwilightClan warriors: Darknose and Cinderfoot. Spiderkit was the tiniest of the three, the runt of the litter, and it was wondered for the first week of her life if she would be strong enough to survive. She pulled through, and soon enough was running around the nursery with her two brothers.
- Spiderkit became Spiderpaw, but instead of being mentored by a warrior like her brothers, she was named the medicine cat's apprentice. She is confused by this at first, but tentatively accepts the position, deciding to give it a chance first. She takes the nomination very seriously.
- Her mentor is Marigoldnose, a talented golden tom who seemed destined for the role. He had a sharp nose and a joyful personality, the latter of which didn't seem to rub off on Spiderpaw, though she did enjoy his company. She was a quick learner though, and a dedicated one at that, and Marigoldnose admired how hard she worked.
- One of her first experiences as a medicine cat apprentice under Marigoldnose was a queen ktting 3 kits, all stillborn. The grief of the moment really struck her, and she carries that memory with her to this day. It was also the moment that Spiderpaw decided to remain the medicine cat's apprentice, to try and prevent such painful events.
- Her apprenticeship progresses smoothly, and she earns her medicine cat name Spiderleaf in honor of her skill at the craft. She is 14 moons old when this happens, and Marigoldnose retires to the elder's den, leaving Spiderleaf as TwilightClan's sole medicine cat.
- Her parents have a second litter, this time consisting of a single she-kit named Batkit. Spiderleaf, Blacktail, and Sootnose all adore their little sister. Around the same time, after some guidance from StarClan, Spiderleaf decides to take on an apprentice of her own. She chooses a young tom named Elmpaw to fill the position, which he happily agrees to.
- Elmpaw proved to be a decent choice of an apprentice, what with his sharp mind and memory, and she found she truly enjoyed mentoring him. It would not last, however; he was killed at the age of 10 moons in the storm that struck TwilightClan. Spiderleaf was devastated by the loss, and coped by throwing herself further into her work.
- She knew Elmpaw could not be replaced, but she took a second apprentice shortly after his death- a young she-cat named Dapplepaw. Despite Spiderleaf's gruffness, Dapplepaw was eternally cheery and peppy, and the older she-cat found her heart warmed. StarClan seemed to approve of her choice when the two visited the Mist-Caves on Dapplepaw's first meeting.
- This apprenticehood was shorter than the last; after only two moons of training, Spiderleaf and Dapplepaw were attacked by a fox while they where collecting herbs on the far side of the territory. Spiderleaf, with only basic fighting training, did her best to fight it off, but the fox went after the apprentice first and killed Dapplepaw before taking a swipe at the medicine cat, blinding her in her right eye. A nearby patrol heard the yowls and rushed over to drive off the fox.
- Deeply hurt and angry about the deaths of her two apprentices, the she-cat went to Marigoldnose, her former mentor. She asked that he give her a different medicine cat's name, as he was the one that gave her her first one. He concedes, and gives her the name of her choice: Spidereye, for her scarred, blind eye and as a reminder of what happened to her apprentices, both of whom she loved dearly. She is 29 moons at the time of her renaming, and Marigoldnose passes on in his sleep a half moon afterwards.
- Since then, Spidereye had been reluctant to take on an apprentice. She doesn't know if she's cursed or if it's StarClan's doing, but in either case she's terrified to lose another and doesn't know what she'll do if that happens. Her relationship with her starry ancestors grows tense due to this, as she half-blames them for not warning her of their deaths. Other than this, however, she carries out her duties normally, using her work as an excuse to distance herself. Kits are born, cats of all ages die, and she lets it envelop her.
- In recent moons she's been more open to the idea of an apprentice, though she swears to StarClan if the next one dies she's going to have more than a few bitter words for them.
