RIVERSTORM of CURRENTCLAN
48 MOONS • MEDICINE CAT
CIS SHE-CAT • DEMISEXUAL BIROMANTIC
SHORT DESCRIPTION
Marbled gray tabby she-cat with black stripes and blue-green eyes.
PERSONALITY
- Riverstorm was trained as a warrior, so she can be kind of gruff and doesn’t particularly have the best nest-side manner. Her tongue can be just as sharp as a warrior’s claws, although those that know how much she had lost to become medicine cat know her bad attitude at least has its reasons—even though her sourness has continued for seasons.
- She’s the first to speak up when she thinks a situation can be handled through reasoning rather than tooth and claw, unafraid if her opinion is the minority. She is bold, brash, and unforgiving of the ways she can come across because of it.
- That being said, she is still an excellent medicine cat. Her memory is unparalleled—not only did she pick up on herb usage very quickly, but she is also keen on remembering things her clanmates have said in regards to their health. This aids her in being able to monitor symptoms from afar and early.
- Like Brightwater before her, she is into preventative medicine and is more than willing to shove herbs down her clanmates’ throats if necessary, but a slight motherly side does appear when working with sick kits or apprentices. Riverstorm would vehemently deny this, but she does have a soft spot for the young and old of the clan.
- Riverstorm does not like it when cats bring up her past as a warrior, not just for opening old wounds, but because of her own self-deprecating and self-destructive nature. She knows she could have led herself to her own death if it wasn’t for Brightwater’s intervention and does not wish to travel down that road again.
- As for StarClan, it’s a bit of a sticky subject for the gray tabby. There are times she does not approve of their ways—if they wanted her to become a medicine cat, couldn’t they have told her before she had the chance to take a mate and lose kits? That being said, if she is truly sent an omen or a vision she thinks it’d be frog-brained not to follow it.
- When it comes to the deputy and leader of CurrentClan, Riverstorm will challenge opinions if she deems necessary. There’s no point in sending cats off to die needlessly. Her demeanor through objecting is always calm. In fact, if Riverstorm is ever angry she does not tend to have outbursts. Her voice become icy as is her demeanor.
- Despite her hardened personality, Riverstorm is amiable with her clanmates and other medicine cats. Her witticisms and quips can be misinterpreted as insults by those who don’t know her as well… but that would usually mean they are not from CurrentClan, and so why would that ever matter to her?
HISTORY
- Minnowfur and Carptail were average CurrentClan warriors with nothing really all that special about either of them. Their courtship was the gossip of CurrentClan though, and they gave birth to three healthy kits: Riverkit, the oldest, Black-kit, and Reedkit. Riverkit was named for the black stripes on her gray that looked like refractions of light on the river's surface.
- Riverkit, Black-kit, and Reedkit all got into the trouble that kits do, especially with another queen, Finchfeather's,litter. The litter consisted of Snakekit and Lilykit. Snakekit and Riverkit were the best of friends.
- Riverkit became Riverpaw alongside her siblings as well as Snakepaw and Lilypaw. Riverpaw and Snakepaw were determined become the best warriors in CurrentClan, and although they realized their kit games may be unrealistic (Snakestar with his deputy, Riverheart) they still wanted to provide as best as they could for their clan.
- Riverpaw was adept at battling, as was Snakepaw. The two became quite the battle couple and once they passed their assessment, they became Riverstorm and Snakefang. Riverstorm received her suffix for her strong nature in battle as well as everyday life.
- Riverstorm soon realized that through all their apprenticeship and into new warriorhood, she and Snakefang had romantic feelings for each other, and became mates shortly after their ceremony.
- Despite being young, Riverstorm and Snakefang started to think about having a litter. The apprentice count in CurrentClan was small, and if they needed new apprentices so badly, she'd take that duty upon herself. Although she hardly seemed like the mothering type, Riverstorm became pregnant with Snakefang's kits.
- Riverstorm’s pregnancy was difficult. A late but harsh leaf-fall frost made her very ill after falling asleep while still fur-soaked. The medicine cat, Brightwater, had assured Riverstorm that she would be prepared for whatever happened. Brightwater had been trained by Beestripe, who was very into precautionary medicine. Regardless, Riverstorm kitted early. All three kits were dead, and only quick thinking and the right concoction of herbs was able to save the tabby warrior. Snakefang and Riverstorm still named their kits to bury them—Pebblekit, Birdkit, and Lakekit.
- Riverstorm and Snakefang grieved heavily. Riverstorm in particular was in shock, and had to be given poppy seeds for her condition. Snakefang poured his grief into working for his clan, to Brightwater's chastising. Leaf-bare had come, and he developed a bad cough just as Riverstorm was getting better from her illness. Snakefang died as well, but he died as he lived: fishing while sick, he coughed and slipped, banging a head against a rock. His body was found next to the enormous dead trout he had caught.
- Riverstorm had become addicted to the poppy seeds she had received for shock, and although her night terrors of her dead kits warranted them, Brightwater began to deny the gray she-cat the herbs.
- Riverstorm's herbal addiction continued, and the fierce warrior continued to hang around Brightwater's den, learning the ins and outs of what it meant to be a medicine cat. The gray tabby no longer had the fire she did during her warrior training. Fighting seemed meaningless without Snakefang at her side.
- Brightwater refused to let Riverstorm have the poppy seeds she so badly wanted, and although Riverstorm originally was prone to outbursts in this time period, after undergoing withdrawal symptoms she soon returned to her usual personality, feisty and sassy as usual.
- Brightwater cleared Riverstorm to return to warrior duties and the night she returned to the nest her siblings had saved for her, Riverstorm was visited in a dream by Beestripe. He said that although the world had taken so much from her, it was because she was not destined to become a warrior. Riverstorm was about to argue with the past medicine cat of CurrentClan when Snakefang and their kits appeared to her as well, their pelts glittering with starlight. Snakefang said although he missed her dearly, this was all to lead her to the path of a medicine cat, and that she must accept. When her kits mewled in agreement, Riverstorm knew what she had to do.
- Barricudafang was organizing patrols when he ordered Riverstorm to go on a border patrol near WhisperClan. Riverstorm knew she could no longer continue her warrior duties with the same determination she once had. She announced to the clan she wished to become a medicine cat. Brightwater appeared out of her den, not very surprised. She had known StarClan's plan for the gray tabby. She accepted, and Riverstorm became the medicine cat apprentice at 18 moons of age.
- Riverstorm went to the Mist-Caves with Brightwater to be accepted by StarClan. Her grief finally subsided when she realized she could see Snakefang every half-moon.
- Riverstorm became a full medicine shortly after, having an adept memory for the herbs she already had spent so much time around. For a full fifteen moons, CurrentClan had two medicine cats. This was not to be for long though, as Brightwater passed away in her sleep. It was around this time Barricudafang died as well.
- One moon prior to Willowstar’s passing, Riverstorm took on an apprentice, Codpaw.
- Willowstar died of old age, just when Riverstorm was sure he was going to live forever. She accompanied Slushspots to the Mist-Caves.
- A few moons passed, as Slushstar's career as leader was not long, and Riverstorm had to go with Tornadoroar to the Mist-Caves for him to receive his nine lives. Riverstorm swore to StarClan, if his reign as leader was this short, she’d be called the worst medicine cat in the entire forest. All previous hostility that she had treated him with had been forgotten; he was truly a CurrentClan warrior, and a good one at that. She trusted him to take Slushstar’s place.

NOTES
She has bad night terrors about the night she lost her kits, which resulted in her being given poppy seeds for shock. She became addicted; however, Brightwater weaned her off of them. After a bout of withdrawal, Riverstorm has never used them again for herself, and she usually relegates Codpaw to collecting them as well as distributing them, just to be safe. Riverstorm also has an aversion to helping with kitting.
PREFIX: River, for the black stripes on her pelt are patterned like refracting light in clear water.
SUFFIX: -storm, for her feisty nature.
