PERSONALITY
- LEVEL-HEADED. perhaps the greatest feature to owlface and the better of their traits, they're able to remain calm even in the most trying of situations. with a calm head upon their shoulders, they think rationally where other cats would find themselves triggered into the fight-or-flight response, which could spell the difference between life and death. it is not that they don't register danger, but rather that they are better at keeping their cool within it. they regard each situation as a challenge to their ability to think quickly while still remaining in control, and such a mentality has led to them developing a tolerance to the unexpected. their shifting mentors assisted in developing this, too, as they needed to in order to adapt to the changing social climate.
- PATIENT. and perhaps one has to be, when dealing with rambunctious felines. owlface is almost starclan-esque in how much they can take. it's incredibly difficult to get them angry. certainly, make them grieve, certainly, hurt them, but they're one to attempt at length to understand a situation fully before getting the facts. they're very good at measuring their responses so they're not so quick to react. it is with this patience that they can face even the loudest and angriest of cats with a straight face and the same amount of diplomacy with which they would regard any other cat. it also makes them a good listener when someone needs a shoulder to cry on, as they will be more than willing to stay there and not get too uncomfortable sitting in one place.
- STRONG-WILLED. despite how calm and perhaps "soft" owlface is, that doesn't mean they're someone who's weak of mind. they are not easily deterred, and it's part of their ability to keep their cool. in situations that would make other cats anger, so too could some make them cower; and owlface is not either of those cats. they honor reason above emotion, and it's more evident than ever when it comes to how tough they can actually be, even if it is disguised in soft wrapping and kind words.
- WITHDRAWN. owlface has difficulty connecting to cats on an individual level, remaining relatively distant to other cats. other than their parents, cyclonestar, and gingerheart, they have made very little attempt to reach out to others on a personal level. that isn't to say they don't desire company, but rather they believe becoming too attached to someone could compromise their ability to think clearly under certain circumstances. that is to say, if a cat defects or if they are killed in action, owlface needs to be able to pick themself up after that. this is a coping mechanism that they've developed as a result of shifting mentors as well as their mother's death.
- SERIOUS, TO A FAULT. tell a joke? owlface is probably going to miss it. sarcasm, too. they take pretty much everything seriously and at face value. it's part of the reason baiting them doesn't work; they aren't drawn in by sarcasm whatsoever, and if anything are simply confused by it. they're straight-laced in their conversation, and as a result it leads to them being "boring" to be around. it's not impossible to draw a playful side out of owlface, but it's incredibly and exceedingly rare and it's way more likely that they'll be confused, then promptly tell you to get back to work rather than wasting their time (in a polite way, of course).
- DEDICATED. owlface has two things they're most loyal to: whisperclan, and starclan. the amount of dedication that they have toward both is staggering; they'll defend starclan's decrees to the death, without any possible consideration for starclan being wrong in any situation (how could they be wrong? that's nonsense) and as for whisperclan, well, they've established a long time ago that they're willing to lay down the line for the sake of the clan and their clanmates. this is not simply something they've earned as an apprentice as they've always felt like whisperclan is home, and they have a very strong attachment to their heritage. it is due to this as well that they're not exactly keen on letting outsiders into the clan, even if cyclonestar is lax on it, and they're the more likely of the two to have second thoughts on the matter.
- STUBBORN. while owlface is willing to compromise, it really depends on the issue and once they have made their mind on a stance, their mind is made up and they will continue to insist on it. they know cyclonestar is leader, but if he makes a decision without their consent that they believe is a bad idea, they will let him know. they're not someone who gives in and believes that they're in the wrong so easily, and they can be very skeptical. this translates into a quiet stubbornness, rather than a loud one - while they won't fight you to the death on a decision you've made, they will refuse to give in to the idea that they might be looking at a situation the wrong way unless the evidence before them is irrefutable on the subject. it is this trait that can lead to them butting heads with other cats within their clan, specifically cyclonestar. it is a good thing that, as a past mentor and apprentice pair, they generally agree on issues and the leader takes their council seriously.
- POLITE & WELL-MANNERED. even with stubbornness and perhaps unsavory traits, they're not one to resort to temper tantrums or aggression to get their way. they're always polite, or perhaps even deceptively so. they're much more likely to be passive aggressive instead of outwardly so, and even then it's a stretch. they genuinely don't feel that negatively toward other cats; they simply feel strongly on certain issues, and they're willing to address these issues in a reasonable way, even if they're unwilling to change their opinion on it. they stand solidly beside their beliefs, but they don't think that they have to be mean about it.
- RESPECTFUL. owlface has a lot of reverence for the medicine cats, for starclan, and for their leader. even for those they don't, though, they give every cat a fair chance before dismissal. they automatically respect everyone, including those younger than them. they don't believe in elitism; although they think their opinions are right, they are otherwise rather humble and know they are not the best or strongest cat in the forest. they are more than willing to acknowledge the strengths and assets of others and to call attention to their accomplishments, especially those of clanmates, even if they're in disagreement. they're a fair fighter as well and believe in honor above all else. they do not cheat, and they do not play unfair by threatening kits or queens.
- AWKWARD. due to a lack of proper social interaction, when they do attempt it (and often, they have to, given the communal sense that the clans have), they aren't very good at small talk and they often have trouble thinking of things to say. it is not that they don't think about those things, but they're not so proper at expressing them. this affects comforting others, as well. they certainly try, and they do so in as soothing a way as possible, but the 'empathy' part of the equation is a little difficult for them. this also goes into them being way too serious for their own good; they're more likely to blink and shift uncomfortably when someone jokes around, or when someone goes as far as to flirt with them, than flirt back.
- LOVING & GENTLE. despite the fact that they don't get all that close to their clanmates, it doesn't mean they're incapable of showing warmth. they certainly will when the situation calls for it, and given how level-headed and logical they are, being gentle comes easy to them, since their emotions do not go haywire. they do have to make a controlled effort sometimes to comfort someone when they believe that they're wrong about an issue, but they do it as an inherent part of themself and their beliefs, and they will never complain about making such an effort. they believe their job is to guide and to help others, and while they may not be entirely comfortable in those situations, they will absolutely still try.
HISTORY
- Owlkit was born as a single kit within a litter. This was not unexpected; their parents also were a part of small litters. Civetfur and Largetalon loved each other very much and they treated Owlkit with the same kind of love and care that they treated each other.
- Back during kithood, Owlkit had been unaware that anything had been different with their gender identity. They went by the typical female pronouns that would be associated with their sex, and though it brought them discomfort since they were younger, they weren't able to place exactly why.
- The transition to apprenticehood had been a painful one. During the entirety of that time, they swapped between three different mentors as a direct result of incidents regarding rogues scattering within their territory rapidly dwindling the lifespan of cats within the Clan. They'd camped out at the edge of the territory, and refused to leave.
- Owlpaw's warrior ceremony was saved from being delayed due to their participation in driving out these rogues. With a calm and reasonable demeanor they assisted their last mentor along with several other warriors in a last raid upon them, and the rogues finally left upon deciding that the territory was not worth trying to squabble over.
- Otherwise, aside from the constant shifting of mentors making apprenticehood chaotic, they were very dedicated. Right from the beginning they proved themself to be more of a cat to demonstrate finesse and level-headedness even in the most trying of situations. As a result, they managed to accommodate to their shifting mentors fairly well, although they mourned like any cat would.
- Such mentor shuffling did have a negative effect on their ability to attach themself to other cats, however. They often avoided making close friendships, despite their strong loyalty to WhisperClan and their unshakable belief in StarClan, not in the least bit hindered by the repetitive deaths.
- Upon earning their warrior name, Owlface, they went straight to business in providing for the Clan, managing to impress Rockstar. Ordinarily, older warriors were assigned cats to train, but once Cyclonepaw came of age at Owlface's tender twenty-one moons, they'd been assigned as his mentor.
- During the time that they'd begun training him, they'd been experiencing some kind of gender confusion. After a talk with their mother, they decided that they liked the idea of going by 'they' pronouns instead of masculine or feminine ones, and not being addressed as a she-cat. Given how hard the warrior worked, most were pretty accepting of this decision once they came out with it.
- They'd caught onto the drama between Cyclonepaw and Tornadopaw, but rather than directly interfering, they allowed Cyclonepaw to get further and further deep into his training. They sometimes did have to advise for him to actually go back to camp and rest for the day or else he'd risk injury. Only their sensible and soothing disposition helped him to listen.
- Cyclonepaw quickly became known as a prodigy, and Owlface had to admit it - they'd felt a sense of pride once he earned his warrior name, and they certainly provided a cheer or two for his sake. In fact, they held so much pride for him that they watched over him even after their time together. Despite having taken another apprentice during Cyclonestep's time, they took time to visit him and train some more, developing the technique for taking down large birds that they devised together.
- A gathering shortly went awry after that. They watched as Cyclonestep tore at the warrior's den in a furious temper. They did attempt to calm him down, and they were there to assist him when he helped to repair the den afterward. They worried over him.
- Cyclonestep was named deputy moons after that, to which Owlface, of course, supported him, after the previous one retired. Being the busy bee that he was, they kept their focus on making certain that their last apprentice, Gingerheart, was well acquainted with warrior life.
- A rogue intrusion occurred some moons after that, and Owlface suspected it was the same rogues believing that they could get in a second chance. During this time, Cyclonestep's sibling fell to his death, and in the impending battle, so too did Rockstar fall, leaving the Clan in a disarray and causing grief to sweep throughout the Clan. Owlface themself had been caught up within the emotion, but they tried to remain strong within this trying time and support Cyclonestep as they had since he'd been assigned to them.
- They'd been caught by surprise when he nominated them as deputy, but they accepted nevertheless, more than happy to continue supporting him at his side. They now offer to be the cool to his storm, the firm and serious to his lackadaisical, while he provides the passion that they cannot. Together, they make a fierce team.
