SORRELPAW of STORMCLAN
9 • MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE
MALE • HOMOSEXUAL
SHORT DESCRIPTION
ginger tom with green eyes.
PERSONALITY
- curious -- an inquisitive soul, sorrelpaw seeks out knowledge whenever he can. he genuinely enjoys gathering information to the point where he may even be called nosy.
- quiet -- he tends to speak little, if at all. most of the time he spends with his clanmates he spends listening, fascinated by their stories and opinions.
- loyal -- sorrelpaw is incredibly loyal, to his clan and to his friends. it would be extremely difficult to persuade him to betray them in any shape or form, whether or not it be the technically correct thing to do.
- stubborn -- oftentimes in a disagreement, even if he knows the other cat is right he refuses to back down. he will sulk unless they agree to compromise with him, even if the solution is less than optimal.
- ambitious -- confident in his skills, sorrelpaw has a certainty that if he tries hard enough at anything he must succeed. he feels that he is a good judge of his own capabilities, and will aim for the stars.
- self-conscious -- though he would never allow himself to show it, sorrelpaw is extremely concerned with how others view him as a person. words and opinions about him impact him greatly, planting worms of self-doubt in his mind.
- sarcastic -- as a self-defense mechanic, he hides behind snarky remarks to brush others off.
- caring -- despite his prickly appearance, he cares a great deal about others and does his best to make sure they are happy and well. seeing others suffer is a sure way to make sorrelpaw upset.
- idealistic -- sorrelpaw isn't always realistic in how he views the world, and sometimes puts people on a pedestal, so to speak. this is mostly because of his age, however, and he's starting to grow out of it.
- flexible -- he's always open to new ideas, and is good at adapting himself accordingly. he doesn't hold on to any values too tightly, so if something comes along to change his mind he'll easily do so without fuss.
HISTORY
- larksong and adderpelt had a loving relationship, with both cats happy and contented. it was no surprise to anyone when larksong gave birth to three healthy kittens.
- sorrelkit grew up extremely close to his siblings, redkit and squirrelkit. the trio were inseparable, always playing together and coming up with ridiculous, imaginative schemes.
- one fateful day sorrelkit received a rather nasty rat bite in the night, before anyone could do anything about it. he was quickly sent to the medicine den. in the morning, his siblings came to visit him but were quickly ushered out when they began causing mischief.
- for a time, sorrelkit was forced to rest in the medicine cat den. after a while, his siblings came to see him for shorter and shorter periods of time- they seemed to be having fun without him. sorrelkit started to worry that he wouldn't become an apprentice at the same time as them.
- when he recovered, however, he'd grown intrigued by the plethora of herbs and their uses. he began making visits to the medicine den when his siblings weren't paying attention. sorrelkit still held onto the idea of becoming a warrior - becoming the best warrior, in fact. to the annoyance of redkit and squirrelkit, however, he still maintained his daily visits. it was like a ritual, almost - sorrelkit would go and watch the medicine cat perform his duties, offer to help (not that he could do much), and learn what he could. it made him feel important.
- sorrelkit developed a quiet admiration for sableheart, in the way a kit admires more capable warriors. it was something of a crush, and he began spending more time at the medicine den not to learn, but more to spend time with the cat he idolized. he kept asking questions about this and that, but it was more to get sableheart's attention than anything else.
- one day squirrelkit and redkit sneaked out of camp without him - they'd figured he would want to spend his time in the medicine den and so didn't invite him - and squirrelkit disappeared. redkit came running back to camp with his tail bushed out, eyes wide, incoherent. something had happened to squirrelkit, and redkit refused to say what.
- sorrelkit blamed redkit, and his brother snapped back with equal anger. they fought, and both came out with bruised feelings. they began competing - both had an intense competitive streak - but redkit was better than sorrelkit. stronger, and a faster runner. it left sorrelkit unhappy and frustrated.
- as their apprenticeship approached, sorrelkit began visiting the medicine den more and more. it wasn't so much that he didn't want to be a warrior that he wanted to be close to sableheart, and he started requesting that sableheart mentor him. to be successful in this would be like an ultimate victory - it was a path redkit could not follow, and would not best him in. when the older tom agreed, he was elated.
- as the two became redpaw and sorrelpaw, they started to grow distant. their paths diverged, and squirrelkit became an old wound. they no longer paid much attention to each other.
- once sorrelpaw really began training, he realized that being a medicine cat really wasn't all fun and games. the information he received was intensely rewarding, however, and he could spend even more time watching sableheart care for their clanmates. after a while, he realized that this path just felt right, and not just because he was working alongside a cat he had turned into a legend in his mind.
