DRAKEFANG of AMBERCLAN
45 MOONS • DEPUTY
TOM • HETEROSEXUAL
SHORT DESCRIPTION
" imposing, medium-furred russet tom with golden eyes. "
PERSONALITY
- it is made fairly clear by his actions and thoughts that Drakefang is a self-serving cat. Most of what he does is for his own personal gain (though, if it stands to be more than just beneficial to him, then great). However, the majority also happens to coincide with the good of the Clan.
- Drakefang is interested in keeping AmberClan of pureblood. Other Clans he is wary of, and anycat outside of AmberClan with the intention to join them may be prevented from doing so just because of Drakefang's inherent distrust.
- he believes that his bloodline is one of the best within the Clan; as such, while a mate and kits would continue this line, he is not very interested in romantic or affectionate pursuits.
- Drakefang is a strong advocator to not uphold the weak. "You are as strong as your weakest warrior."
- Drakefang is a loyal, born-and-bred AmberClanner; he would do anything to ensure they thrive. On a Clanmate-to-Clanmate basis though, he is less so. He only really goes out of his way to assist another Clanmate when it is absolutely necessary.
- having earned himself a place as second-in-command, he believes he knows what is best for AmberClan and that his beliefs are supported. Drakefang can make tough calls without batting an eye and has been known for his decisions being morally questionable.
- while his ultimate goal is to be leader of AmberClan, he is not aggressively ambitious or power-hungry. Though, as long as the leader stays within the relatively same line of belief and values, he has no problem staying deputy.
- he has little to no tolerance for betrayal; if you are not fully committed to AmberClan and its cause, then Drakefang will be keeping a close eye on you.
- that being said, he is quite observant. Monitoring the Clan is one a deputy's duties, and Drakefang is very good at it. An apprentice sneaking out after moonhigh, the smell of another Clan or the telltale body language of a lie and such is easy for him to detect.
- Drakefang tends to dissect a cat's intentions surgically upon meeting them; it's mostly a subconscious thing, but it saves him a lot of time that would be spent wasted on needless socialization.
- he almost always nurses an alliance as opposed to an actual friendship. Drakefang will go the extra mile to secure an ally but is the complete opposite when it comes to friends.
- many may think him stuck-up or arrogant because of his tendency to avoid idle conversation and interactions, but Drakefang simply does not require much socialization or attention.
- Drakefang is very intentional with his actions; from personal to diplomatic, he never makes a move without purpose.
- in relation, Drakefang is calculating and never acts on impulse.
- it takes scaling a mountain and crossing an ocean to truly impress Drakefang. He believes that most cats have a simple mediocrity to them, and his expectations are low.
- at the same time, apprentices in his paws, even if he does tend to have a low outlook on their success, are expected to perform with maximum effort.
- Drakefang has little time for recreational and useless diversions; if something is deemed frivolous, he will skim over it without batting an eye. This goes from ideas to cats themselves.
HISTORY
- pristine in pelt and in her polished abilities, Hailclaw was a true-blooded fighter. She had an odd kind of beauty to her, one that was made all the more taboo by her often sour personality and tendencies. While she dreaded the idea of kits, she wanted to continue her bloodline and raise them her way.
- the tom she had her eyes set on was a ruddy, hardened warrior named Claystorm. The twin brothers, Claystorm and Russetfire, were both exceptional on all fronts of skills, but where one was serious and all business, the other was exuberant and dedicated.
- Hailclaw was seeking the former, wanting a like-minded mate. She had no real malice towards Russetfire, but his personality, she thought, was not very desirable.
- her courtship with Claystorm was not a romantic one, and it was quite slow-building. She had thought he would be open to the idea of their combined genes yielding agreeable offspring, but he was more on the lines of not wanting any kits at all.
- with his rejection repetitive, earning both Hailclaw's growing agitation and impatience, she abandoned him for his more frivolous brother. Russetfire was an easy cat to endure, at least, long enough to bear his litter. She not-so-secretly hoped it would make Claystorm jealous, but it seemed as though he could care less.
- Icekit and Drakekit were born, and Hailclaw felt as much motherly attachment as a cat like her could. She allowed Russetfire to name the kitten that bore his resemblance, even though she had immediately frowned upon how strange it was.
- Claystorm died in an unspectacular way just shy of her kits becoming apprentices. Her obsession with him made her sharp grief oddly-placed even if he was the brother of her mate.
- she fell ill from the sadness, and died a few sunrises before Icekit and Drakekit's naming ceremony. Drakekit, having experienced not much affection from her, felt very little for this.
- when they day came that he and his sister were apprentices, he was given the warrior, Poppylegs. Though, right off the ear, Drakepaw noticed that the she-cat and he were not the right match. She was passive, and unsure of which direction to take him. He often would get in trouble because he would train on his own instead of with her.
- at the age of 9 moons, his adamancy to have another mentor named to him satisfied, newly named deputy, Addertail, became his.
- Drakepaw was never very close to his sister, but in the waning sunrises of his apprenticehood, a young cat by the name of Mistypaw gained his attention. He saw in her similarities between them, and in places where Icepaw had been disappointing, Mistypaw was not.
- his training beneath a more like-minded warrior a much more suitable thing, Drakepaw's colors truly began to shine. He became a warrior early, at the age of 11 moons, at the urging of his mentor and the success of his final assessment.
- not but a moon later, Drakefang, as he was named for his ferocious skill as a warrior, experienced the death of his former mentor. Though, in truth, he had hardly flicked an ear. Perhaps if Addertail had been less reckless or perhaps if he had been better skilled, he would have survived.
- thus began Drakefang's slowly developing views on other cats being lesser; you either were one of the best, or you weren't. You failed, or you succeeded. Little was in a grey area for him.
- at 19 moons, he was given his first apprentice, Chestnutpaw. He was a cat without a backbone, timid and with undesirable traits. Drakefang would scowl; perhaps the goal had been to give him such an apprentice in hopes that he would overcome his vices, but Drakefang was closer to thinking the young tom a lost cause.
- at the age of 23 moons, Drakefang was involved in a border fight between his own patrol and a StormClan one. The fight was rather needless, but neither party were willing to back down from a fight. Perhaps an unnecessary amount of force, Drakefang not only incapacitated Mousewhisker but killed him.
- the coming Gathering was a tense one, one that questioned whether Drakefang had acted out of cold-blood rather than self-defense, but the case was dismissed with finality by his leader, Newtstar. Others rose to his defense, including his slowly-forming friend, Mistystep. Her alliance did not go overlooked.
- even in his own Clan, after the event, some cats became wary of him, but Drakefang hardly paid the whispers any mind.
- a moon later, Chesnutpaw's training was complete, and he was christened Chestnut-tail. Hard work and all but endless training had paid off, more for Drakefang than his own apprentice. He had initially expected Chestnut-tail to crumble under the pressure, but in the end he had groomed an adequate warrior.
- for several moons, all in AmberClan was fairly normal. Free from his mentoring, Drakefang spent more and more time with Mistystep, the two quite like-minded. He didn't mind her more passive nature, and, in fact, enjoyed it. He was happy to take the initiative in activities they did together.
- little of importance happened, until, at 31 moons, a badger laid waste to their camp. Many lives were lost, including the final life of their leader. When Boarstrike returned as Boarstar and named him as deputy, there was no surprise in his form. He knew, at some point, his prowess would be recognized.
