CROWSTAR of DUSKCLAN
42 MOONS • LEADER
TOM • BISEXUAL
SHORT DESCRIPTION
a sleek black tom with green eyes and a heavily scarred shoulder.
PERSONALITY
- AMUSED; a mask that he wears frequently. Crowstar seems perpetually amused, always hiding his true emotions behind a Cheshire-like grin in most circumstances. He enjoys others' reactions to his expressions, both good and bad, and likes the privacy it affords his thoughts.
- WITTY; a tool he often uses to further his own amusement. Crowstar enjoys using his wit to tease others, be it his family, members of his clan, or even cats outside his clan. His voice often carries the barest hint of condescension when he does this. Crowstar does this both as a sign of affection with those he's on good terms with, or to provoke those he is not.
- COLD; he seems to hold everyone at arms-length emotionally, taking great care not to reveal too much about his thoughts or actions. Crowstar is a very private person and doesn't take kindly to being manipulated or to prying questions, both of which he will dodge when he can with a question of his own or a change in subject.
- EMOTIONAL; perhaps the reason for his coldness. The leader feels very, very strongly, though he does know for the most part how to tame it and use logic in his decision-making. That said, it does shine through from time to time, most strongly when he is angry or there is a threat against his clan. He also has particularly strong reactions to the deaths of apprentices and kits.
- SERIOUS; Crowstar knows when it's time to be serious, and he can drop his amused front in a flash when the situation calls for it. While he remains calm, he is often more blunt and straightforward as well. The change can be startling at times.
- INTELLIGENT; Crowstar has always been a thinker, and his sharp mind shines through in both his wit and his ability to strategize. He is nearly always thinking, considering, mulling over something, whether it be something important or something to keep him occupied. He is easily bored if he's not applying his mind to something, but luckily enough he can often find something satisfactory.
- QUESTIONABLE MORALITY; though he'd rather call it practical. Crowstar has no time for theories and doesn't allow himself to be either optimistic or pessimistic. He's quite frank with his beliefs when he trusts someone enough with them. While Crowstar respects the warrior code, he isn't shy about blurring the lines when the situation calls for it, especially if it's to ensure his clanmates remain safe. He also doesn't view StarClan as infallible and treats his starry ancestors pretty much the same way he treats everyone else he respects.
- STEADFAST; few can say they've ever seen Crowstar shaken, and he's not easily intimidated. While he may have an emotional outburst from time to time, he tends to quick distance himself from these. Other than that, he likes to maintain a somewhat stoic calm, and is more than willing to stare pretty much anyone down should it come to that.
- GUILTY; he carries guilt like a boulder on his shoulders. Crowstar had always been consumed by deaths he feels guilty for (namely, his brother's) and this has only grown more intense since he was named leader, as he is now responsible for the lives of everyone in his clan.
- FORGIVING; this only truly applies to cats within his Clan. Crowstar can be quite forgiving with others, willing to give a second chance if he feels the cat in question is sincere and ready to make amends. While he doesn't shy away from punishing others, he rarely defaults to the harshest of punishments. Outside his clan, however, is a different matter entirely; he tends to be more strict and only offer a single chance.
HISTORY
- Crowkit is the last of his litter, born alongside Rook-kit and Magpiekit. The kits’ birth was neither difficult nor remarkable, and took place just at the start of leafbare.
- The kits established the roles that best fit their personalities quickly. Magpiekit was the leader of the trio, never hesitant to boss them around or lead them on adventures. Rook-kit was the most social, and could always be found chatting someone’s ear off, be it his siblings or warriors. That left Crowkit, who more often than not kept to himself and stuck close to his siblings throughout his nursery days.
- They were made apprentices at the age of 6 moons; Crowpaw was assigned to be mentored by a young she-cat named Nightingalewing. The she-cat was young, but dedicated to mentoring her first ever apprentice. Crowpaw was surprised to find that he enjoyed training, that it engaged both his mind and his body. Nightingalewing was pleased with his rapid learning over the moons and especially his ability to strategize.
- Perhaps it was a boost in his confidence, perhaps he was just a late bloomer, but it was about halfway through his apprenticeship that Crowpaw's personality really began to shine through. Though he remained a private character, never one to give in to prying questions, Crowpaw became steadily more witty and impish.
- He was named a warrior alongside his siblings at the age of 12 moons. He became Crowfrost, earning his suffix for his personality. His sister became Magpiefoot for her swiftness; his brother became Rooktail for his agility. Despite the three often not having much time together due to their apprentice duties, they managed to remain close, and this continued into their warrior days.
- The three would often go on hunting trips together, though if one was assigned to a patrol, two would suffice. It was such a day when they were 18 moons old that Crowfrost and Rooktail went hunting together, as Magpiefoot had been assigned to a border patrol. They chose to hunt near the Twoleg Path, hoping for a few easy catches. Their trip was cut short, however, by a dog that had gotten lost while on a walk with its twoleg. It attacked the two cats, leaping on Rooktail first before Crowfrost managed to do enough damage to chase it off, but not before earning a deep wound on his shoulder that would later leave a thick scar. His brother was severely wounded with several bite marks, and Crowfrost had to drag his brother back to camp. Rooktail passed away the next day from his wounds.
- The dog roamed DuskClan's territory for a quarter moon before it was finally found by its owners and taken back home. While it attacked any cats on sight relentlessly, it was also easily (but only temporarily) chased off by patrols in the meantime. Many injuries were sustained, but only Rooktail's and one of Honeystar's lives were taken over the course of the week. Tensions were high within the clan; those who remembered the wolf attack 26 moons earlier wondered if the territory was growing too riddled with predators to be safe.
- Rooktail's death was a huge blow to Crowfrost. He felt responsible, and carried around that guilt for a solid moon, growing steadily more withdrawn as he did so. When he was 19 moons old, Honeystar assigned him his first apprentice, a she-cat named Littlepaw. Crowfrost suspected that Honeystar did this in an attempt to get his mind off of Rooktail, but he accepted the responsibility regardless.
- It worked- focusing on training Littlepaw gradually returned Crowfrost to his old self. While he still carried the blame for his brother's death, he was able to fulfill his duties once more, especially once his shoulder healed over fully. Littlepaw was a small light in his life, always cheery and later picking up a few of his sarcastic quips. When she earned her warrior name, Littlenose, Crowfrost couldn't have been prouder.
- Time passed. Crowfrost and Magpiefoot grew even closer after Rooktail's death, as if they were terrified of losing one another. They had achieved a sense of normalcy over the moons and each thought the other had finally moved on. Things seemed to be going smoothly for them until that leafbare when Cedarclaw, the deputy, passed away from illness. Honeystar announced that night that Crowfrost would be deputy. Though the tom was somewhat surprised by this, he accepted the position.
- Crowfrost never asked why exactly Honeystar had chosen him; nor did Honeystar ever volunteer that information. All the better; the black tom didn't know if he wanted to know the answer to that question. She did warn him in private that she was on her last life, and that he needed to be prepared for leadership, for she could sense her time was coming- various pains in her chest that herbs did little to help were becoming more and more frequent. Sure enough, she passed six moons later.
- At 36 moons old, Crowfrost became Crowstar. His trip to the Mist-Caves to receive his lives was a solemn one, but the sight of his warrior ancestors relaxed him slightly. He received his lives one by one; the first given was from Honeystar, the following seven from various other warriors and apprentices both recent and ancient. The last life he was to receive from his brother Rooktail, who greeted him with his characteristically bright smile. It broke Crowstar's heart to see his brother with stars in his fur, and he refused the life. Rooktail, who had always been perceptive, told him that refusing the life wouldn't bring him back from the dead; Crowstar, who thought of it as step towards redemption, insisted.
- He returned to his clan with only eight of his nine lives, a secret which he has yet to reveal, and appointed his deputy. Crowstar has since grown comfortable in his role as leader.
